Greetings 2013-2014 Future City New England Teams!
I hope everyone is having an enormous amount of fun preparing for next week. We are anticipating the biggest competition we’ve ever had in the New England Region, so be prepared to have fun and meet teams from all over New England!
Lunch and breakfast will be provided for everyone.
Below are important notes for Competition Day:
1. Schedule for the day is as follows (times are approximate):
8:30am – 9:20am: Teams arrive and register; see below for further details on competition location and parking
9:30am – 1:45pm: Preliminary Judging Round (Models and Presentations) and Special Awards Judging
1:45pm – 1:50pm: Announcement of Top 3 teams for Final Round
1:50pm – 2:00pm: Top 3 teams set-up on stage
2:00pm – 3:15pm: Final Judging Round (Top 3 teams present on-stage)
3:30pm: Announcement of 2013-2014 Future City New England Regional Winner
2. Throughout the day, all teams and their models will be located in the Curry Center Ballroom. In the Preliminary Judging Round, each team will be judged in a separate judging room by a panel of Presentation and Model judges. At the end of the Preliminary Judging Round, we will announce the top 3 scoring teams to present in the Final Judging Round. In the Final Judging Round, the top 3 teams will have their model set-up on stage in the Curry Center Ballroom and each team will then re-perform their presentation to the Final Round panel of judges as well as to all in attendance.
3. We will be giving Special Awards this year for
a. Most Innovative Infrastructure Design Concept
b. Best Use of Innovative Construction Materials and Techniques
c. Best Moving Parts in Model
d. Best Management of Water Resources
e. Most Holistic Approach
f. Best Buildings
g. Best Integration of Cultural and Community-Focused Concepts
h. Best Educational System
i. Best Energy System
j. Best Land Surveying Practices
k. Best Transportation System
l. Best Health System
m. Best Communication System
4. Please bring hardcopies of the following on competition day. Deductions will be applied for missing Competition Expense Form, receipts (stapled to expense form), or Honor Statement Form. Attached are blank forms for use.
a. Honor Statement Form
b. Media Waiver Form
c. Competition Expense Form (receipts stapled to form)
d. Copy of Essay Form
e. Copy of City Narrative Form
5. Location of the Competition is:
a. Northeastern University - Curry Center, Boston, MA (location: http://www.northeastern.edu/neuhome/aboutnortheastern/maps.html)
b. Attached is a PDF with directions to the best drop-off location for teams and their models.
6. Public Northeastern University Parking Garages are (refer to above link for map):
a. Renaissance Garage - $8 all day
b. Gainsborough Garage - $24 all day
7. The Future City New England winner (maximum of 3 official team members) will need to fill out a form on the spot and the form requires student social security numbers, so be prepared for that as well.
