It has been quite a year! I wanted to share some pictures from the past few months. Some of the highlights for me have been teaching Scratch computer programming, the Hobbit book discussion group, The Rube Goldberg Contest, Science Challenges, The Science Scavenger Hunt, and The Current Events Discussion Group. I feel a bit melancholy as the year ends and the 8th graders get ready to move on to bigger and better things.Of course, the 5th graders from Mapleshade and Mountainview will be here soon enough to start their new adventures. Next year in GT, we will have new EV3 LEGO Robotics to work with, thanks to ELEEF. I'll be offering beginning and intermediate classes in Scratch Computer Programming, made possible by donations of 5 laptop computers from Mass Mutual. I'll be reading and discussing the Lord of the Rings Trilogy with my 7th and 8th graders. There will be Future City of course, and Rube Goldberg Machines, advanced math classes, another Science Scavenger Hunt, another go at attending the state science fair, thanks to a grant from the 484 Phi Alpha Foundation. Who knows where the interests of my students will lead us next? There will be thinking, problem solving, writing and creating galore. Here's looking forward to another great year! |
